Runway fashion is different in comparison with retail fashion. However, successful were a handful of Pakistani designers that received surplus attention that tempted them into inaugurating their very own flagship stores across the country. On a wide scale, the recent showcase in PFDC this year exhibited some of the most gorgeous Pakistani designer dresses shimmering under the spotlights, posed by exotic models flaunting on the runway.
More often we see the emphasis on bridal dresses, haute couture, or pret a porter ensemble, despite high demand of such clothing. Accordingly, retailing for such apparel remained high almost throughout the year 2012, another reason for the debut of designers’ outlets popping up like the recent opening of Sania Mastakiya’s brand new store on MM Alam Road. Her introductory Sapphire lawn collection is among the most celebrated lawns this season. More assortments are yet to be discovered following the upcoming Eid season. Deepak Perwani on the other hand certifies for being a creative artist famous for his angle on fusing two different or multiple cultural traits in his clothing. The clash settles perfectly as seen at FPW 5 (day 2) where Deepak’s crisp assortment emanated Mexican fashion mixed with Kharadar street life prints; along with ‘Naqsh’ by Sania M that constituted chic apparel. His entire collection was a tribute to Frieda Kahlo, a Mexican revolutionist famed for self-portrait paintings. This year Perwani was busy in his launch of new lawn collection for Orient Textiles which was a bit of a challenge, in his opinion. He was quoted saying: ‘’the new generational modus operandi is all online, and this is the future’’ when being asked for his opinion regarding online shopping.
Other emerging brands included the well famed, ill-fated Arsalan & Yahseer showcasing some impeccable menswear with impressive tailoring. The duo parted ways this year while shifting all the operations under Arsalan, reinventing the brand name as Arsalan Iqbal.
